CWI Dialogue Meeting, 3rd Dec 2011 at the Ethnic M, supported by Akidwa.
The 3rd of December 2011 was a successful day for Congolese women in Ireland at the Ethnic Minority Centre “Red Cow”, supported by AKIDWA.
The meeting was chaired by CWI secretary MAVIE KITENGE.
The meeting was opened by the CWI CEO NHONO T
explained briefly the association’s aim, vision and mission. She also addressed the Congolese women present to become member of the association CWI, which is the place where women will explore and develop themselves. It is a forum created for sharing experiences and knowledge to celebrate their beauty, talent, as well as their skills and competence.
Above all, the association wants to bring together all Congolese women living in Ireland in one aim: to support the integration in the communities. The association also wishes to help finding solutions for emerging problems between sisters, mothers and all the women here and in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The CWI appreciated the talk of CHANTAL TSHILENGA. She talked about Women Empowerment. She insisted that migrant Congolese women have to take all the opportunities given to challenge themselves – like learning English which is the key point of Integration in Irish society.
CHANTAL asked the women present not to be afraid to play their own role as no one would give them this self-esteem. People need to see women as an individual in the community. In this need and to comfort Congolese Women in Ireland JUDITH ZANGA, one of the orators talked about the value of the organization. She asked the women present to respond to questions to the CWI form given to learn what the women need and what the association is supposed to know about Congolese women.
The importance of the message was in fact that women of Congo need to see themselves like an Icon representing the ideal of the Nation. JUDITH wanted Congolese women to keep in mind that any Nation cannot grow without women participation in society. Therefore, Congolese women in Ireland have to personify all the attributes belonging to Congo and present them to the rest of the world.
As people know, it is a scandal in the Congo regarding the abundance of richness, that Congolese women have to embody this concept and must act for their land, that their country is seen by the rest of the world as a superb creature which needs nothing as it has and is the total of all desire and aspiration. This is the time where Congolese women must be aware of their authenticity and originality.
Following the CEO of AKIDWA, (network of migrant women living in Ireland), SALOME MBUGUA talked about the aim, vision and mission of AKIDWA (Swahili meaning for ‘sisterhood’) See also: http://www.akidwa.ie/
SALOME explained to the women present the hard work involved since 2001. Therefore, AKIDWA has become one of the most activist women associations here in Ireland.
That’s why CWI’s aim is to see all kind of Congolese women taking part in this movement which will become a way of integration into the communities. Like our Congolese ladies who represented Congo in the 12th edition of “Miss Africa Ireland 2011”. From the 8 contestants YANTHA TAMBIDILA from the DR Congo won the competition and runner up was VANESSA MUNONGO, also from the DR Congo.
Finally, CWI wants to show their gratitude to the following people/ organizations for their support:
